[ Description ]
On a country road outside of Roswell, we spot a bus driving. The bus is marked "Special." At the Evans', Max and Isabel are getting ready for dinner. Max asks Isabel why she has been avoiding him, and she responds that they have destroyed a race of people, and that she is just trying to get over it. We next find Valenti and Kyle fishing in a lake. Things seem dead when suddenly, Kyle catches a gigantic fish, and then releases it, explaining it's "the circle of life." Valenti looks at him strangely. In Maria's car, Liz can be found along with Maria in her Crashdown uniform. It is obvious that Liz has resumed her job there, and the two are currently out on an errand for Liz's father. As Liz and Maria pass a sign for the UFO Centre, a green flash shoots out of it, which they do not recognize. At the table, Max and Isabel are eating a pie, which their mother has baked, but they don't seem to be thrilled with it. When Mrs. Evans starts to question Max about Liz, he asks for some more pie. She gets up, walks over to it, and just as Max and Isabel exchange looks over the pie, the rest of it is dropped on the floor, and their mother is nowhere to be found. As Liz and Maria make their way into town, they discover that it is empty, with cars stopped dead, tractors running by themselves, and baby carriages left in the middle of the road. At the train station, a bus pulls up, and the tour guide explains that they have reached Roswell. The bus passengers exit, and as they do, we notice Nicholas and his mother. Nicholas exclaims, "Let's find some aliens."
Valenti pulls up to the UFO Centre sign, and tries to radio the deputy, explaining there has been some property defacement. Valenti scolds Kyle for throwing back the fish, and for his recent behaviour as well. Valenti cannot get a hold of the deputy, and becomes angry. They drive back to the station.
Back at the Evans', Isabel explains that she cannot find her father. Max explains that the neighbours' house is empty as well. Isabel tries calling 911, but it is no use. At Michael's, Courtney appears out of a bathtub, and Michael is sitting close by. He questions whether she put the husk on, and she answers yes, thanking him as well for saving her life. Michael thanks her for saving theirs in Copper Summit. Suddenly, the phone rings. It's Max, who tells Michael to meet them at the Crashdown right away.
Back in town, Liz and Maria investigate, only to conclude that everyone has suddenly disappeared. As they walk back to the car, Liz notices a piece of skin on the street. She picks it up, and explains, "This is not good." Everyone arrives at the Crashdown, and just as Courtney suggests that every human has vanished, Liz and Maria run in. Liz questions Max on what happens, but he is almost as clueless as they are. Why would Liz and Maria not disappear like the rest of the humans? As the group ponders this question, Maria tries calling Alex, but notices a CD on the Crashdown counter. She picks the CD up, explaining his band had just burned a demo, and that he couldn't wait to show it to her. It is obvious he has disappeared as well. Isabel explains that they have to find out who did this, and Liz replies that they already know. Maria explains that they found a "skin" on the street, and Courtney suggests it was Nicholas. Isabel walks to the window and explains that they are coming.
The group walks to the bathroom, which they will use as a hiding place. Nicholas and his mother, Ida, enter the Crashdown and Nicholas commands Ida to "check the back". In the bathroom, Tess explains that it is Nicholas and his mother, and Tess uses her power to hide. Nicholas becomes distracted by a soda float, but then notices a mirror where the door to the bathroom was. He walks over to it, looks in the mirror, and taps on it. Tess continues to use her power, and it seems to overpower him. He calls his mother over, and begins picking at his skin. She tells him not to pick at it, and Nicholas informs her she is shedding as well. They agree to return to the moisture pad, and Nicholas explains they'll have to use "Plan B".
In the back room, Liz looks through the laundry and explains that the Elvis Costello playing in the background is what her mother always listened to on laundry day. Max explains that the humans' disappearing is their fault, but Liz insists they haven't lost them yet, and must stay strong. Isabel calls Max from the restaurant and we see that Courtney has collapsed. They carry her upstairs to a bath, and Liz explains that her husk is squishing her because it is hungry for food. To tempt the husk with food, they use vitamins and minerals. Maria pulls out a bottle full of vitamins and medicines, explaining that she was "dating Michael". She throws the vitamins in and on Liz's porch, Michael and Max use Liz's telescope to look for Nicholas and his mother. Back in the bathroom, Courtney seems fine, and Tess explains that she had a pretty quick recovery. When Tess asks her what the skins did, she does not answer at first, but after Tess threatens to drain her bath water, Courtney confesses that on their planet, time exists in a different way, and that Nicholas must have used some kind of technology to impose it on their human friends. When this happens, it would be like functioning in all the different time zones at once, and according to Courtney, the human body cannot handle it. When Liz asks where they have disappeared to, Courtney says she does not know where they have gone, nor if they will be coming back or not. Liz and Maria feel thankful that they have slipped through a window, but Courtney explains that they just might have bought some time for themselves.
While Liz and Maria walk downstairs, Maria questions this, but she is interrupted when Liz notices a man standing in the Crashdown. The man immediately tries to capture them, but they slip through the window from the counter to the kitchen. Maria gets through safely, but Liz is almost caught. Suddenly the man lets go, and we notice Valenti has shot him. Liz slips through the window and Maria warns the Sheriff that the man is a skin. Valenti shoots again, but the man knocks him down, and runs out as Kyle runs in.
Isabel and Michael escort Courtney to a booth inside the restaurant. Max asks how to kill the skins if they can't use guns on them, and Courtney turns and shows a small hole in her back with what looks like a metal stud sticking out. She explains to find the heaviest thing that they can and smash them in this area, because it will internally smash the steel structure of their husk. Isabel asks Courtney what Nicholas can do, and she explains that Nicholas can do all the things they can, "times 100." She then informs them that he has a power that allows him to get into your mind and rape you of your thoughts and memories. Valenti suggests they get everyone to a safer location, and Max suggests the UFO Centre, which was formally a bomb shelter. Outside, Max tells Valenti they will have to cross the street in groups since there is little cover, and Michael and Kyle carry Courtney over first. After they make it across, Valenti follows with Liz, Maria, and Tess. When they leave, Isabel asks if Max would let her leave and find Nicholas since it is her he is after. Max refuses to let her go, and demands an explanation of what really happened in Copper Summit. Isabel suggests that they are stronger as a team anyway, and when Max goes to check if the coast is clear, Isabel disappears. Max realizes this quickly, and tries to follow her, even though he is clueless as to what direction she went in.
Isabel walks through town, and hears a sound near the bus that Nicholas was on. The sound is that of a toy car, and Nicholas purposely drives it into Isabel, who is startled when he pops out from behind her. At the UFO Centre, Michael brings Courtney some water. He explains that he will fix her another bath, but she informs him that she is dying. Michael refuses to accept this, and says, "There must be something we can do." Courtney tries not to suggest it, but Michael forces her, and she reveals that the granolith is the only way of saving her. In the back room, Liz and Kyle look at graphs on Brody's computer. They realise there was an electric charge that happened at 10:30 in the morning, and Kyle explains that's about the time everyone disappeared. Liz ponders whether the energy charge can be "shut off", just as it was turned on. Valenti enters the room, and asks Liz to leave. She does, and Valenti starts to speak to Kyle about how he is impressed with the man Kyle has become. Valenti almost collapses during this speech, and Kyle doesn't understand what is happening until Valenti vanishes right in front of him.
Max walks past Tess and the camera shifts to Maria who is pacing. We notice a picture on the wall as Maria paces one way, but on the way back, it is gone, and the woman in the picture appears from behind a large curtain. The woman uses a power to knock Maria down, but Tess quickly saves her by kicking the woman in the back. Max and Michael enter and Kyle follows. Tess explains that the skins have found a way in. Max suggests they hide in the school, and Max then tells Kyle to find his father. Kyle explains he can't because Valenti has disappeared right in front of him. Liz argues that the skins time frame must be catching up to the surviving humans, and Kyle notices a postcard of the UFO Centre sign. He explains that Valenti had thought there was some vandalism on the sign this morning, and informs Max that he is driving out there. Max tells him to drive out of town with Liz and Maria. He agrees, and Liz and Maria follow.
In the bus, Nicholas explains that he always knew Vilandra (Isabel) would return. His mother is there, and Isabel asks to tell Nicholas something in private. Nicholas informs Ida to leave, and she does. Isabel asks Nicholas if he remembers of their trysts in their past lives. He replies that he does, and Isabel informs him that she is there for him. Nicholas un-cuffs Isabel, who makes a pass at him, but uses her force to knock him out. Suddenly, Ida renters and knocks Isabel out. Nicholas whines, explaining he could have handled her himself. When Ida questions what he'd like to do with the rest of them, he suggests that they "kill every last one". The two leave Isabel behind on the bus.
In Maria's car, Kyle is driving outside of town with Maria and Liz close by. Liz feels bad about not explaining what happened with her and Kyle, but Kyle suggests that they deal with their problems now and "play nice" later. Just before they reach the sign, Liz vanishes as well. Maria and Kyle get out of the car, and Maria is upset that Liz has vanished but Kyle assures her that "they are all coming back". Just as Maria suggests that they blow the energy field's fuse, Kyle spots a skin running toward him. The skin attacks Kyle, who knocks him to the ground before finding a club and smashing him in the back with it. Just as the skin disappears, Kyle does as well, leaving Maria in the desert alone.
Outside of town at her house, Nicholas finds Courtney, and uses his power in order to find out where the aliens are hiding. Courtney is weak; she is close to death, and looks horrible. Nicholas finds that they are hiding in the school, but also feels something is missing. He asks Courtney if she is hiding something, and Nicholas once again uses his power in order to get inside her head. When he finds her secret knows the location of the granolith, she pushes the button in her back. This kills her just before Nicholas can find out exactly where the granolith is located.
At the school, Max, Michael and Tess question where Courtney is, before finding Isabel propped up on a wall of lockers. She seems to be unconscious. They tend to Isabel, but Nicholas, Ida and the rest of the skins follow close behind. In the desert, Maria tries to hook the jumper cables up to an energy source, but nothing seems to be working. Back at the school, Nicholas has tied Max, Isabel, Michael and Tess up. He explains that Courtney killed herself before leaking where the granolith was, and Nicholas, although unmatched for Max in the "old days", uses his powers to drain the location of the granolith from Max. Just as this happens, Maria successfully gets the jumper cables hooked up to the energy source, before disappearing as well. The energy from the jumper cable causes the alien energy source to blow up, and just as this happens, it causes a reaction in Tess, which helps her to unleash a power essential in killing Nicholas. With this power, a gas cloud of fire brushes throw the school, and we are left to find Max, Michael, Tess, and Isabel standing in the school with a big dandruff problem. As they walk through the hallways, they spot a human janitor on the job.
Back at the Crashdown, all business is running smoothly. We catch Alex eating "cold" pancakes as the Sheriff enters and asks him how he is doing. Alex answers "fine", and the scene shifts to Isabel, who finds her mother in the kitchen. Near the UFO Centre sign, Liz, Maria and Kyle celebrate to see one another again. In town, Tess explains her power went out of control, and that she never wants to do it again. Suddenly, a boy on a scooter roles past Tess, bumping her in the shoulder. As Tess and Max look back at the boy, he appears (to the viewer) to be Nicholas, although both the viewer and the characters are left unsure.
